How to make family worship a win for the whole family:
1️⃣ Before Church - Have a Conversation
A conversation with your kids ahead of time will help prep both their expectations and their understanding. Here are some basic things you can talk about before or on the way to church.
You can give them some ideas on how to meet with God, such as:
- Focusing: Focusing on God’s goodness and presence with them, closing their eyes
- Praying: Talking to God about anything, listening to God
- Bible: Reading and thinking about one of their favorite bible verses
- Behavior: Honoring God and others by being attentive, not disrupting others
You can talk about why we go to corporate worship:
- Our primary reason we go to church is to worship and meet with God
- Throughout the Bible, we see God’s people gathering together to worship
- God wants to speak to us (individually and corporately) through the reading and preaching of scripture
Arrive on time so that there is sufficient time to try some things with your kids in worship
2️⃣ While in Worship - Engage God With Them
Let them see you (and others) worship:
- Sincerely personally engage God
- If you are able to do it sincerely, lifting your hands, singing aloud, getting on your knees, or other expressions of worship are not only biblical ways that help us worship, but also give permission for our kids to follow in our steps.
